For SMD LED displays, LEDs are generally exposed, which is likely to cause the problem of light stringing between pixels, but also lead to poor protection performance, affecting the imaging effect and lifetime.
COB stands for Chip on Board. The technology refers to the LED packaging technology that directly solidifies the LED chips on the printed circuit board (i.e., the PCB board), rather than soldering the formed LED packages on the PCB.
COB packaging technology does not require wire bonding, which can completely solve the failure of SMD caused by wire bonding, greatly reducing the risk of failure caused by metal migration, and without the problem of exposed SMD pads, which can achieve a lower failure rate.
However, as the surface of the SMD display is not optically treated, it is prone to pitting, color shift and other phenomena when viewed from the side; while the COB technology is encapsulated by epoxy resin or silicone, the surface is smooth and flat, the horizontal and vertical viewing angles are wide, and the color gamut is wide. , The surface glow is not dazzling, and the viewing experience is more perfect.
COB can prevent the LED from failing due to water, moisture, scratching and other damage, making the display more impact-resistant, wear-resistant, dust-proof and moisture-proof; And it’s IP65 rating (front), so that users can use it more at ease in the epidemic era. SMD displays, however, are easy to fall off or have dead LEDs, and the surface protection is not as good as COB
With optical film technology, COB displays can present surface glare-free lighting, and are ideal for smaller viewing distance, They can present high sharpness and soft display, and better display effect. On the contrary, SMD displays have obvious points when viewing closely, which affects the image quality of the picture.
